How to use a medical/surgical mask?
and how to take it off?
Knowing how to use a medical mask seem to be a given, however we continue to see people not using the medical mask correctly. Here, we provide you all you need to know to master this!
How to put on the medical mask?
1. Always clean your hands thoroughly with either rubbing alcohol or soap and water.
(For hand alcohol should be rubbed into the hands for about 20-30 seconds)
(Soap and water should be rubbed into the hands for about 40-60 seconds)
2. Find the upper part and lower part of the mask.
3. The upper part is the side where the metal band is located (i.e. the hard side of the medical mask).
4. Identify what is inside the mask and what is outside. The inside of the mask is white, and the outside of the mouth guard is usually coloured. Note! Folds on the outside on the mask should point downwards on the mask.
5. Place the mask on over your face so that it covers your nose, mouth and chin, secure ear loops around your ears.
6. Press the metal band so that it forms around your nose. Then adjust the mouthpiece so that it fits snugly against the face.
- Do not use the medical mask if it is broken or has holes in it!
- A medical / surgical mask should not be reused!
- Do not touch the mask while using it to avoid contamination!
- If you happen to touch the mask, wash your hands.
